The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed two Executive Orders aimed at strengthening the campaign against drug abuse and promoting mass mobilization for societal reorientation. The signing ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse.
Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi described the occasion as a significant milestone in the state’s collective effort to protect young people and restore the moral values of communities. He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing social challenges through coordinated action.
The governor also welcomed the presence of the Special Guest of Honour, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He noted that Marwa’s attendance, alongside senior NDLEA officials and his keynote address, underscored the national importance of the initiative and reinforced the seriousness of the fight against drug abuse.
Governor Namadi explained that the two Executive Orders are deliberate instruments of governance designed to translate the commitments contained in his administration’s 12-Point Agenda into concrete action. He said the measures represent targeted interventions to strengthen security and drive positive societal transformation.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting and collaborating with relevant federal agencies to decisively tackle the activities of local drug dealers. According to the governor, drug abuse is destroying the lives of many young people and creating serious security challenges across communities.
Governor Namadi also pledged to strengthen local governance by working closely with communities and civil society organizations to improve accountability as part of a broader programme of social reorientation. He explained that one of the Executive Orders establishes a coordinated framework for preventing drug abuse through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, community mobilization, and enforcement support, while the second promotes patriotism, honesty, discipline, respect for the rule of law, civic responsibility, and service to the common good.
The governor further noted that the urgency of the Executive Orders was heightened by the violent outcomes of the “End Bad Governance” protests of August 2024. Although the protests had political undertones, he said the violence recorded in several states, including Jigawa, highlighted the need for stronger measures to promote social responsibility, prevent drug abuse, and foster lasting peace and development.
