The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the disbursement of N1,389,857,763.37billion as terminal/death benefits to 560 retirees and relatives of deceased Civil Servants.
The Jigawa State Executive Secretary of the Scheme, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, made this known while addressing the beneficiaries at the Pension House in Dutse.
He explained that the payment includes gratuity, death benefit, and death pension balance.
According to him, the 560 workers were the staff of state service, local government Councils and local education authorities who voluntarily retired or reached retirement age or those who died in active service
The Executive stated that N1,101,443,426.68 would be paid to 453 staff who had retired from service, while N261,855,040.41million would be disbursed to the 90 relatives of those who died in active service.
He said the last batch was beneficiaries of 17 retirees who retired from service and started receiving monthly pension but died before reaching their minimum period of five years after retirement. These people were paid N26, 559,296.28million.
The explained that the Jigawa state and Local government Contributory Scheme is up-to-date in its payment of entitlements to its retiress, including those that died in active service.
Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu also stated that the scheme is up-to-date in the payment of monthly pension to all retired civil servants across the state.
He said this reflects the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its retirees and the importance of ensuring financial security for those who have served the State.
The Executive Secretary extended heartfelt gratitude to Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi for his steadfast support and transformative reforms initiated since he took office.
Earlier, the Jigawa State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi S.G Shehu disclosed that, from 2023 to date, the State Government under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi has injected over Nine Billion Naira into the scheme as a bailout to save the scheme, which significantly enhancing its viability and instilling confidence among retiring civil servants.
Alhaji Abdullahi S.G Shehu explained that the intervention and its impact on the scheme is very effective because it has strengthened the pension scheme.
On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Contributory Pension Scheme, Honorable Idris Aminu commended Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi for his untiring effort toward the improvement of the welfare of pensioners.
He stated that the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme is the foremost pension scheme in the country, committed to timely payments for all retirees, including those who have died in service. This reflects the state government’s unwavering dedication to the welfare and financial security of its civil servants.
The disbursement ceremony, held at the Jigawa State Pension House, is part of the ongoing efforts to honor the hard work and dedication of civil servants upon their retirement. The funds will provide much-needed support to the retirees, helping them to transition to post-service life with dignity and stability.
Some of the beneficiaries, who have served in various capacities across the state and local governments, expressed delight for the timely payment of their benefits. They noted that the prompt payment of their benefits will enable them to meet their financial obligations and enhance their quality of life in retirement.
