The Anambra State Government has intensified efforts to restore peace and security across the state with a renewed crackdown on suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), over their alleged involvement in previous acts of insecurity.

On February 20, 2026, a security outfit established by the state government, code-named Agunaechemba, commenced a coordinated operation targeting suspected IPOB and ESN members across various parts of the state. The operation has reportedly led to the arrest of more than 40 suspects at different hideouts, while several others are still at large.

Among those reportedly apprehended is a suspected notorious ESN member, Ikechukwu Mba, and members of his group alleged to have been involved in the 2021 attack on Ajali Police Station. Security sources described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities.

Security operatives, including the police and local vigilante groups, are continuing search operations to apprehend other fleeing suspects, including prison escapees identified as suspected IPOB members such as Samson Jideofo,Jeremiah Okoye , Ifeanyi Nwaliri and Emeka Okeke, who remain on the run.

The Chief Security Officer of Agunaechemba, Sir Ken Emeakayi, vowed that the outfit would not relent in its efforts until all wanted suspects are brought to justice.

Emeakayi stated that no stone would be left unturned in the ongoing operations, stressing that the activities of IPOB and its affiliates would not be tolerated anywhere in the state, including the enforcement of the Monday sit-at-home order.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and restoring lasting peace across Anambra State.
