The former Governor of Zamfara state and the Senator Representing Zamfara West Senitorial District, Dr. Abubakar Abdulaziz Yari has urged Islamic Clerics, Christian leaders and Faith based groups in Zamfara state to assist the state in tuning their sermons to change the minds of the people into living together in peace, harmony and uniting against banditry, kidnapping and perpetrators of social injustice across the state.
He made the call at his home town in Mafara while briefing Journalists on the several engagement processes that he and other leaders of All Progressive Congress APC have carried out with traditional leaders, party leaders and Stakeholders from all wards as well as Religious leaders.
The aim of the engagement is to unite all the sections of the state together, deliberate on the need to lead a peaceful living, discover the possible reasons for increasing insecurity at some quarters, proffer solutions to them and instil in the people the need to expose the perpetrators of insecurity for lasting peace in the state.
In his words, the elder state man emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in shaping public attitudes and discouraging communities from acting as informants to bandits and other criminal elements.
He urged citizens to remain law-abiding and support ongoing efforts by the government to address insecurity, noting that peace requires collective responsibility, prayers, and cooperation from all citizens and stakeholders.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, the Executive Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal commended the Ulamas for their continuous prayers, guidance, and unwavering support toward the progress and stability of the state. He reaffirmed that his administration remains fully committed to tackling insecurity and improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.
He further highlighted key achievements of the current administration to include, increment in allowances for over 11,500 Ulamas across the state, renovation and construction of Juma’at mosques in various communities, provision of 40 modern vehicles to support religious and community engagements and establishment of Hisbah offices across the 14 Local Government Areas.
The Governor also noted that the government is working diligently to complete inherited projects from past administrations as part of its broader agenda to drive economic development and stability in Zamfara State.
Also speaking on behalf of the Ulamas, Liman Alhaji Sambo, Chairman of the Ulamas, alongside Liman Salihu Alero, assured continued support and prayers for the success of the state and its people. They emphasized that peace, security, and economic development are collective responsibilities, urging all citizens to remain law-abiding and adhere to the teachings and commandments of Almighty Allah.
The gathering ended with special prayers offered for peace, unity, and stability of the State also advocating divine intervention to eradicate insecurity in Nigeria.
