NUPRC charges IPPG on industry standards, human capital development

The (NUPRC) has called on the (IPPG) to uphold global industry standards, deepen human capital development, and strengthen corporate governance across Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.

The Commission Chief Executive, made the call on Monday during a courtesy visit by an IPPG delegation led by its Chairman, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Eyesan described the IPPG as a critical force in the evolving oil and gas landscape, particularly in the wake of divestments by international oil companies (IOCs). She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the group.

Emphasising compliance with the (PIA), Eyesan stressed that investment in human capital and adherence to sound governance practices are essential to sustaining growth and competitiveness.
“One area we must spotlight is human capital development,” she said.

“As the industry grows, there is a tendency for standards to slip. If that happens, it will ultimately hurt everyone. In a global market where financiers assess Nigeria as a whole—not just individual companies—we must ensure our human capacity meets international benchmarks.”

She further urged the IPPG to hold its members accountable to the highest standards, drawing parallels with the practices of international operators.
“As a pressure group, you must set and enforce high standards among yourselves.

That is one area where IOCs have excelled,” she noted.
Reiterating the Commission’s role as a business enabler,

Eyesan assured stakeholders of continued responsiveness to industry needs, aligned with the economic vision of .

In a move to modernise operations, Eyesan also announced that the NUPRC has fully transitioned to a paperless system as part of its digital transformation agenda.
“We recognised the need for transformation upon my assumption of office,” she said.

“I am pleased to announce that as of April 18, 2026, the Commission has gone completely paperless, thanks to the collective effort of our team.”

In his response, Falade commended Eyesan’s leadership, describing it as dynamic and impactful despite her relatively short tenure since December 2025.

“You have not been here long, but the signs of your leadership are already evident,” he said. “We do not take these improvements for granted.”

Falade, who also serves as CEO of, called for sustained engagement between the Commission and the IPPG, assuring that the group remains committed to advancing national interests.

“You can always count on us. The Nigerian agenda remains central to our mandate,” he added.
