The apex Igbo socio cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, at its General Assembly held in Enugu, has formally ratified and adopted its reviewed Constitution, alongside deliberations on other key matters of collective interest.
This was made known through a statement made available to newsmen by Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, National Publicity Secretary, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
‘The ratification followed a motion moved by Archbishop Chukwuma and seconded by a prominent member of the Imeobi, Chief Ejiofor Onyia. This decisive action brings to a close a long-standing constitutional review process, which was successfully concluded under the leadership of Senator Azuta Mbata. The achievement represents a significant milestone for the Mbata-led administration, which has steered the affairs of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation for less than fifteen months.”
In a related development, the General Assembly also proclaimed a ban on the use of the traditional titles “Igwe” and “Eze Ndigbo” outside Igbo land, reaffirming the sanctity and cultural jurisdiction of these revered institutions.
Furthermore, the Assembly mandated the Ohanaeze National Executive Committee (NEC) to conduct elections for its chapters in Lagos and Abuja within ninety (90) days.
“The Assembly was attended by array of distinguished Igbo leaders including the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Senator Azuta Mbata, HRM Eze E. C. Okeke, CFR, Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzo, Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council; HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Chairman Anambra State Traditional Rulers Counci, HRM Eze Linus Nto Mba, Chairman Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, alongside other revered royal fathers.
“Also in attendance were the Ohanaeze Deputy President General Prince Okey Nwadinobi, His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu Secretary General, Her Excellency Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Professor Grace Umezuruike, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ebonyi State, who represented the governor His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru; Senator Adolphus Wabara; Professor Uchefula Chukwumaeze SAN; Professor Joy Ilo SAN; Professor Ossy Nwebo, His Grace Most Revd. Dr. Sosthenes Eze, Professor Okey Ikechukwu; Chief Chekwas Okorie; Professor Osita Ogbu; Professor Kingsley Moghalu; Chief Chinedu Ukatu who is the President of Ndigbo Amaka Market Association in Lagos, Dr. Kach Ononuju, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, , as well as representatives of various Ohanaeze chapters and affiliated Igbo organisations among an array of other dignitaries. The event concluded with closing prayers led by Professor Ossy Nwebo.”
