The Nigerian DJ Association has ignited controversy in the music industry by announcing a temporary ban on songs by Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, ordering DJs locally and internationally to remove his tracks from rotation.
The drastic move follows a reported altercation between the Grammy-winning artist and popular disc jockey DJ Tunez at a private Lagos event.
According to reports, tensions escalated into a physical confrontation involving Burna Boy and members of his entourage shortly before the ban was announced.
The incident reportedly took place inside a nightclub, where what began as a disagreement quickly spiralled into a scuffle.
Sources cited by media outlets claimed that multiple individuals were involved, with DJ Tunez allegedly bearing the brunt of the assault.
Reacting to the development, the DJ body issued a strongly worded statement via Instagram, signalling industry-wide solidarity with Tunez.
“Showing their support for Tunez, the Nigerian DJ Association has issued a press statement to all disc jockeys to avoid playing the singer’s song,” the statement read.
