The Lagos State Government has announced temporary road closures in parts of Lagos Island ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled for Easter Monday.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture through its Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Adeoti Sobowale. The carnival is slated to hold on April 6 at Tafawa Balewa Square.
According to the statement, roads to be cordoned off include: King George V Road at the junction near Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, and Flagstaff House inbound to TBS.
Other affected routes are Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Hospital.
All closures will commence from 7:00 a.m.
Motorists and residents have been advised to plan their movements accordingly and make use of alternative routes during the period.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) outlined diversion plans, stating that vehicles approaching from Obalende towards Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2.
Similarly, vehicles from Bonny Camp heading towards McEwen Bridge, as well as those descending from Flagstaff House to TBS, will be diverted to Obalende Bridge. Traffic from Outer Marina towards TBS will also be redirected via Obalende Bridge.
The state government acknowledged the inconvenience the closures may cause and appealed for public understanding and cooperation.
