The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) has partnered with the Federal Fire Service to address fire incidents linked to renewable energy installations across the country.

The collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit by REAN leadership to the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, as part of efforts to strengthen safety standards in Nigeria’s growing renewable energy sector.

REAN said the partnership aims to improve system reliability, reduce safety risks, and boost public confidence in clean energy technologies, particularly solar power.

As Nigeria expands access to renewable energy, the association reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that stronger safety frameworks are critical to sustaining growth in the sector.

Both organisations identified key areas of collaboration, including improving installation standards, promoting fire safety awareness, and educating renewable energy practitioners on preventive measures and emergency response protocols.

The engagement also emphasised the need for public sensitisation on the safe deployment of renewable technologies, especially solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

REAN clarified that solar PV systems are not inherently prone to fire outbreaks, stressing that most incidents are caused by substandard components, poor system design, and improper installation or maintenance.

The association further highlighted its ongoing collaboration with regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to enforce compliance with quality standards, promote certified technologies, and encourage the use of qualified professionals

According to REAN, these measures are expected to enhance system reliability, minimise risks, and strengthen public trust in renewable energy deployment nationwide.
