The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has received the report of the party’s Constitution Review Committee, describing it as a major step toward repositioning the party as a credible political alternative in Nigeria.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, Mark commended members of the committee for what he called their diligence, patriotism, and commitment to a critical internal reform process.
He noted that constitutional review is a complex and sensitive exercise requiring inclusiveness and foresight, adding that the committee had demonstrated these qualities in its work.
According to him, the ADC constitution remains central to the party’s identity, guiding its structure, values, and operations.
He emphasized that the review process was necessary to align the party with present-day realities and to strengthen internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.
Mark also highlighted the broad consultations carried out during the review, which involved stakeholders across states and geopolitical zones. He said the inclusive approach underscores the party’s commitment to collective ownership and participation among its members.
The ADC chairman assured party stakeholders that the National Working Committee would thoroughly examine the recommendations of the report, stressing that all proposals would be considered in line with principles of fairness, justice, and equity.
He, however, cautioned that no constitution, regardless of its quality, can replace the need for discipline, loyalty, and commitment among party members. “The strength of any political party lies not only in its rules but in the willingness of its members to abide by them,” he said.
At a time when many Nigerians are seeking credible political alternatives, Mark urged party members to remain united and focused, calling on them to set aside personal interests in order to build a stronger, people-oriented platform.
The event marks a significant phase in the ADC’s internal reforms as the party seeks to consolidate its structure and enhance its appeal ahead of future political contests in the Nigeria.
