The lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, marking his fourth attempt at the state’s top seat.

Isiaka, popularly known as GNI, disclosed his ambition while speaking with journalists, noting that he has already commenced consultations with key stakeholders across the state in line with party processes.

His governorship journey dates back to 2011 when he contested under the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), polling 137,051 votes but losing to Senator Ibikunle Amosun of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who secured 377,489 votes. He made another attempt in 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was again defeated by Amosun, who was seeking re-election.

In 2019, Isiaka contested on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he lost to the current governor, Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following his defection to the APC, Isiaka won election into the House of Representatives in 2023, where he currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development.

Speaking on his latest ambition, Isiaka said he is confident in his qualifications and readiness to lead the state, citing his experience and deep understanding of Ogun’s socio-economic landscape.

“I am expressing interest to run for the governorship of the state in 2027. I have an interest which will be formally declared at the appropriate time, but it is important to inform the media as critical stakeholders in our democratic process,” he said.

He added that his consultations over the past weeks have been aimed at engaging party leaders and other stakeholders on his plans.
According to him, his renewed bid is driven by a vision to transform Ogun into a more economically viable state through industrial growth, improved healthcare and education systems, as well as expanded job opportunities for residents.

Isiaka also emphasised his roots in the state, describing himself as a bona fide indigene with the capacity and credibility to lead Ogun to greater heights.
