Five persons have been killed and 77 others injured in a bomb blast at a building in Ibadan Oyo State that also affected tens of residential homes in the area.

A visit to the house located at Apeke, close to Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, revealed a brown roof, cracked or fallen walls of the affected building, with household items scattered all over the place.

The tragic incident that happened on January 16, 2023, has thrown the erstwhile peaceful community into confusion and grief, authorities say it might be an act of terrorism but didn’t say who in particular was involved.

Although the police have said they are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation to unravel the cause of the blast, which has also destroyed many livelihoods, resulting in the dislocation of the area’s economy.

But sources in the locality told our correspondent that the explosion was just one of a series of incidents that had befallen the household of late Mr. Saminu Shittu, a former secret service personnel who died in active service last year.

The late Directorate of State Service personnel, Shittu the source hinted was believed to have been poisoned because of some classified and sensitive information on some dubious people in the government who went after his life leading to his untimely death.

According to the source, the latest attacks are directly linked to the desperation of the corrupt government officials who believe the late Shittu may have shared the documents with his daughter and son-in-law Afusat Adetola and Idris Kunle Adetola.

Both Afusat and her husband Idris the source revealed had suffered a series of attacks, a situation that has forced them to go into hiding.

They believe that the attackers of Saminu Shittu’s house was the climax of coordinated attacks in their bid to destroy the classified documents they believe might have been kept in the house.
