The Edo State Police Command has declared Monday Osamudiamwen Omoruyi missing following reports that his life was under threat after a prolonged dispute with his stepbrother over their late father, Sunday Omoruyi’s property. The declaration followed a formal complaint earlier lodged by Monday Osamudiamwen Omoruyi, in which he detailed repeated threats, violent attacks and intimidation allegedly carried out by his stepbrother, Nosa Omoruyi, over ownership of a family house.
According to police Monday Osamudiamwen Omoruyi lost both his father Sunday Omoruyi and mother during the Boko Haram attack on the Barkin Ladi community, Plateau State, where they’re working in June 2023, an incident that claimed several lives and led to a mass burial of victims, including his parents. After the tragic loss, disputes reportedly arose within the family over inheritance, particularly a house said to have been willed to Monday Omoruyi’s elder sister, Queen Omoruyi.
Police reports indicate that Monday Osamudiamwen Omoruyi informed the command that his late father’s eldest son, Nosa Omoruyi, had been threatening him and Queen Omoruyi over the property, despite claims that the house was legally bequeathed to Queen Omoruyi after she reportedly spent a substantial amount of money renovating it. Monday Omoruyi further stated that he had the house documents, a development that allegedly intensified the conflict.
The situation reportedly escalated when Nosa Omoruyi and a group of suspected associates allegedly ambushed Monday Omoruyi in a violent confrontation. During the attack, Monday sustained injuries to his hand and leg but managed to escape and subsequently reported the incident to the police. The command was said to have assured him that Nosa Omoruyi would be invited for questioning as part of an investigation into the matter.
However, a few days after making the report, Monday allegedly faced another attack when Nosa reportedly stormed his residence armed with a gun. According to Monday’s account to the police, Nosa threatened to kill him, his junior sister Esther Omoruyi, and his two daughters if he failed to hand over the property documents, giving him a 24-hour ultimatum to vacate the house.
Monday further alleged that he was severely beaten during the incident and left unconscious, with the attackers reportedly believing he had died. He claimed that his sister was also threatened and warned that any future encounter would result in fatal consequences for the entire family.
Following these developments and Monday’s subsequent disappearance, the Edo State Police Command declared him missing, stating that efforts were ongoing to locate him and ensure the safety of other members of the family, while investigations into the alleged threats, attacks, and property dispute continue.
