The Federal Government has flagged off the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road, with the project expected to improve inter-state connectivity, reduce travel time and congestion, and boost trade and economic activities across Oyo and Ogun states.
The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, disclosed this on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the flag-off ceremony held at the Idi Ayunre axis of the road in Oyo State.
Goronyo said the project represented another major step in the Federal Government’s efforts to upgrade critical road infrastructure and provide efficient transportation corridors for the movement of people, goods and services.
He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to delivering road infrastructure capable of driving economic growth, improving connectivity and enhancing the quality of life of Nigerians.
According to him, the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode corridor will have significant economic benefits for both Oyo and Ogun states through improved connectivity, enhanced road safety, reduced travel time and increased opportunities for trade, investment and employment.
He said the project was consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, which places infrastructure development at the centre of efforts to strengthen the national economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
“The central train of development is moving fast under our progressive banner,” Goronyo said.
The Minister stressed the strategic importance of the corridor, noting that it connects major communities and serves as a vital route for commercial activities across the South-West and beyond.
Goronyo commended the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, CON, for his leadership and commitment to ensuring that critical road projects across the country receive the necessary attention and are delivered to standard.
He also applauded the Oyo and Ogun State Governments, traditional institutions, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support towards the commencement of the project.
He assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Works would continue to collaborate with state governments and other stakeholders to ensure that road infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently, sustainably and in line with the needs of the people.
Goronyo further said the ministry remained committed to expanding and rehabilitating the nation’s road network to stimulate economic activities, strengthen national integration and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The dualisation is expected to facilitate the movement of agricultural and commercial products between Oyo and Ogun states, while reducing congestion and improving transportation along the corridor.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, CON; the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders.
