San Siro silenced: Arsenal beats Internazionale 3-1 to extend their perfect UCL

Arsenal extended their perfect Champions League run with a ruthless 3-1 victory over Internazionale at the San Siro, reinforcing their status as Europe’s most clinical side this season.

A first-half brace from Gabriel Jesus, split by Petar Sucic’s stunning equaliser, put Mikel Arteta’s side in control before substitute Viktor Gyökeres delivered the knockout blow late on.

Jesus struck early in the 10th minute, sliding home from close range after Jurriën Timber’s incisive pass, ending a personal Champions League drought while reinforcing his pedigree on Europe’s biggest stage.

Inter briefly restored parity eight minutes later as Sucic unleashed a precise side-footed effort from the edge of the area that beat David Raya at full stretch.

Arsenal reasserted their dominance just past the half-hour mark, with Jesus reacting quickest after Leandro Trossard’s header rebounded off the crossbar from Bukayo Saka’s corner.

That goal underlined Arsenal’s devastating efficiency from set-pieces, taking their corner-goal tally to 19 across competitions, more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues.

The second half remained open and intense, though goals were initially elusive at both ends.

Alessandro Bastoni produced a heroic tackle to deny Saka, while Francesco Pio Esposito came agonisingly close to equalising when his shot drifted inches wide.

Gyökeres, under scrutiny for a modest goal return since his summer arrival, answered critics emphatically with a moment of individual brilliance in the closing minutes.

After a fortunate deflection returned possession to him, the Swede curled an unstoppable finish into the top corner to extinguish any lingering Inter hopes.

The victory confirmed Arsenal’s place in the top eight and guaranteed qualification for the round of 16, a milestone no other club has yet achieved under the new Champions League format.

With Kairat up next, Arsenal stand on the brink of completing a flawless league phase and rewriting Champions League history.
