Funke Akindele has done it again, and left the rest of Nollywood chasing shadows. Her latest film, Behind The Scenes, has bulldozed its way past the ₦500 million mark in just one week, emerging as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025.

The jaw-dropping feat further cements Akindele’s dominance as Nollywood’s undisputed box-office queen, widening the gap between her and every other contender.

FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, had earlier confirmed that Behind The Scenes shattered five opening-weekend records, becoming the first Nollywood title this year to pull off such a feat.

“And yet, another history has been made,” the celebratory caption read. “Thank you, West Africa, for filling cinemas and carrying this story with love. ₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend. This is what belief looks like.”

The film’s advance screenings on December 10 and 11 triggered massive anticipation, setting the tone for its explosive nationwide release on December 12.

Packed with star power, the movie features Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana and several other fan favourites.

Akindele’s previous blockbuster, Everybody Loves Jenifa, had already rewritten history by delivering Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend ever, eclipsing her earlier record set by A Tribe Called Judah with ₦113 million.

That same Everybody Loves Jenifa later soared past ₦1.8 billion locally, with additional earnings from international markets, a benchmark no rival has come close to touching.
