The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the African Nations League, a bold new annual competition designed to keep Africa’s top national teams constantly in the spotlight.

CAF said the league would provide a consistent, elite platform for senior national teams, increasing exposure for African players while ensuring regular high-quality competition.

Announcing the initiative on its official X handle on Monday, CAF declared its intent to raise the standard of international football on the continent.

According to CAF, the tournament will drive competitiveness, accelerate player development, and deepen fan engagement across Africa.

The annual format is expected to end long inactivity spells for national teams and guarantee meaningful fixtures each year.

The move reinforces CAF’s ambition to elevate African football’s global standing and create sustainable pathways for growth.

The announcement comes amid sweeping reforms, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe recently confirming plans to shift AFCON to a four-year cycle after the 2028 edition.
