The Senator A A Yari Scholarship Initiative Committee has facilitated the appointment of one of its active members, Prof. Tukur Adamu, as the 4th Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, describing the action as an opportunity offered by its council to further develop the institution into a center of academic excellence and moral values.

Chairman of the Initiative Committee, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Ƙaura MFR (Tafidan Kaura) made the disclosure while reacting to the information of the appointment which was contained in a letter issued by the University’s Council after its 32nd regular meeting held in Abuja from 9th – 12th December, 2025.

The appointment was signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Rt. Hon. Engineer Aminu Sani Isa and dated December 12, 2025. The appointment could not have come at a better time than now, when the University needs an accomplished academic, an astute administrator, and a mentor of Professor Tukur Adamu’s standing.

According to him, the new Vice Chancellor had throughout his about 36 years of academic journey from Graduate Assistant in 1989 to Professor of Parasitology in 2005, as well as his appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development by the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, proved his mettle in both character and learning.

Senator Tijjani Yahaya Ƙaura explained that the outstanding performance of the 4th Vice Chancellor of FUGUS as Examination officer, Head of Unit, Director School of Matriculation in UDUS, Rector, Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Chairman Zamfara State Government Education Assessment Committee as well as active member of Senator A A Yari Scholarship Initiative had made him the best among equals in the academic world.

The Chairman expressed gratitude to Allah SWT for making it possible for the Initiative to have one of its active members as the head of an all important institution such as Federal University, Gusau and implored the new Vice Chancellor to bring his wealth of experience to bear in his new assignment, adding that the Initiative will continue to support him in whatever way possible to achieve the desired positive goals.

Born in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, on February 2, 1962, the 4th Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, Prof. Tukur Adamu obtained his BSc and MSc in Zoology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1986 and 1993, respectively, as well as a PhD in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 1998.

He was a fisheries officer with the then Sokoto State Government from 1987 to 1989, when he joined the services of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as a Graduate Assistant.
