Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Arc. (Obong) Victor Attah, as a leader whose mentorship has shaped generations, notes that his newly launched biography stands as a testament to courage, sacrifice, and transformative leadership.

Jonathan, who shares the same birthday as Attah, celebrated the elder statesman in a moving tribute during the public presentation of the book ATTAH: Architect of a New Democratic Dawn at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

The former President noted that the biography “aptly captures not just the story, but the chronicles of sacrifice, courage, service, and transformative leadership” that define Attah’s life.
“On behalf of my family and friends, I join millions of admirers around the world in celebrating you,” Jonathan said. “I pray the Almighty God protects you and grants you more years with grace. Happy 87th birthday.”

The biography, written by veteran journalist and columnist Dr. Dele Sobowale, documents Attah’s storied career and his contributions to democratic development in Nigeria. The event drew a diverse audience from across political, diplomatic, and professional spheres.

In his remarks, Attah reiterated the importance of fiscal federalism, insisting that true federalism remains a critical pathway to Nigeria’s progress. His comments echoed the reform-minded legacy for which he has long been recognised.

Chairman of the occasion and Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Igali, praised Attah as a rare statesman whose service to Nigeria spans decades. He also extended hearty birthday wishes, praying for more fruitful years.

Afenifere chieftain, Chief Supo Shonobare, hailed the book as a timeless resource that will benefit not only Nigerians but also a global audience seeking insight into democratic governance.

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, lauded Attah for producing an educational work aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture, while Arc. Gerry Kemp from the United Kingdom shared personal memories of Attah, whom he described as a role model and a consistent voice of integrity.

Apostle Dr. Glory Udoem of Restoration Ministry International and Dr. Amin M. B. Sahwala, MNI, also commended Attah’s contributions to nation-building and urged Nigerians to read the book for a deeper understanding of governance.

Mrs. Tukudo V.M. and Victoria Bassey added their voices, emphasising Attah’s integrity and the timeliness of the book in enriching Nigeria’s democratic discourse.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Edo State Governor Lucky Igbinedion, underscoring the respect Attah continues to command on the national stage.

The launch of Architect of a New Democratic Dawn stands as further evidence of Attah’s enduring legacy—a legacy rooted in vision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to democratic ideals.
