Take responsibility: Blaming Trump for insecurity shows Tinubu Gov’t is overwhelmed –ADC nock FG

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lambasted the Federal Government over comments by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, alleging that recent terrorist attacks in Kebbi and Kwara States were triggered by remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described Akume’s claim as “amateurish deflection” and a “shameless attempt to abdicate responsibility” by the APC-led administration.
According to the party, the allegation that a foreign leader’s comment could provoke deadly attacks on Nigerian soil is not only absurd but also exposes the Tinubu administration as “overwhelmed and clueless” in managing the country’s worsening security crisis.
The statement reads in part:
The ADC expressed disbelief that the APC government has now resorted to blaming its security failures on a social media comment from Washington, instead of confronting the escalating violence ravaging communities across the country. The party argued that terrorists and bandits had long been emboldened by the government’s inability to respond decisively, noting that Nigeria has endured years of massacres, mass abductions, and assaults on schools and worship centers under the APC’s watch.
The party insisted that attributing the nation’s insecurity to a single tweet is deceptive, stressing that those responsible for killings were not motivated by Trump but enabled by a government that has consistently failed to act.
The ADC further questioned the logic of a government that prides itself on national sovereignty yet claims its security architecture can be disrupted by a foreign leader’s comment. It challenged the administration to disclose what security assessment or mitigation strategies it undertook, if indeed the said statement posed a credible threat.
“Nigerians are exhausted by a government that refuses to take responsibility, yet expects to lead them out of crisis,” the statement noted.
The ADC concluded that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is a direct consequence of “domestic negligence and incompetence” under the Tinubu-led APC government, not the actions or comments of Donald Trump.
The party urged the Federal Government to focus on delivering security rather than searching for scapegoats.
