Olamide responds to Afrobeats ranking controversy, says ‘Plenty of Room in the Sky for Everyone’

Nigerian rapper Olamide has addressed criticism following his recent comment ranking Wizkid as the top Afrobeats artist after Fela Kuti.

The remark, made during a press briefing in Toronto, Canada, sparked backlash from fans of Burna Boy and Davido, who argued their favourites also deserved top placement.

In response, Olamide took to X, urging music lovers to respect differing opinions. He emphasized that the industry is large enough for all artists to thrive and that fans should support whoever they choose without downplaying others.

“Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness… Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose – there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone,” he wrote.

Olamide also noted that Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid have all focused on their craft rather than disputes over rankings, saying this mindset has contributed to their success.
