The Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been recognised as one of Nigeria’s Top 100 Environmental and Sustainability Professionals by Environment Africa Magazine.
Represented at the award ceremony by Mrs. Glory Onyegbule, Director of Applied Meteorological Services, Prof. Anosike’s recognition celebrates his innovative leadership in advancing climate resilience and making weather and climate information more accessible to communities and key sectors nationwide.
Under his leadership, NiMet has transformed early warning systems, enhancing their accuracy and reach to deliver real-time, impact-based forecasts to farmers, local governments, and disaster managers. These improvements are helping mitigate the effects of floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events across Nigeria.
Prof. Anosike has also championed digital climate advisory services and AI-powered forecasting tools, tailoring weather insights for smallholder farmers and translating forecasts into local languages to bridge communication gaps.
Beyond data innovation, he has built strategic partnerships with universities, development agencies, and the private sector to expand weather station networks, promote sustainable infrastructure, and train the next generation of climate scientists.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Prof. Anosike also received a Certificate of Recognition as Nigeria’s Top ECO-HERO 2025.
