Police Issue Warning Letter to Eghosa Johnson’s Family, Declare Godspower Ogbebor Wanted Over Homosexuality Allegations

The Edo State Police Command has issued a stern warning to the family of 24-year-old Eghosa Johnson, currently in detention over alleged homosexuality activities, while also declaring his partner, 23-year-old Godspower Ogbebor, wanted in connection with the same case.

According to police investigations, the incident came to light after Ogbebor’s girlfriend, Jennifer Nwaigwe, reportedly caught him engaging in same-sex intercourse with Johnson in February 2022. She raised an alarm that drew members of the community, who apprehended Johnson at the scene while Ogbebor managed to escape.

The police report revealed that Ogbebor, a native of Odighi in Edo State, allegedly began a same-sex relationship with Johnson, his senior colleague at work, in 2021. Johnson confessed during interrogation that he introduced Ogbebor into the gay community that same year.

Despite Ogbebor’s family denying his involvement in such acts, Nwaigwe’s testimony and Johnson’s confession formed part of the basis of the ongoing investigation. Johnson remains in police custody, while Ogbebor is on the run.

Meanwhile, tensions have escalated between both families. In her report to the police, Ogbebor’s mother, Mrs. Evelyne Ogbebor, alleged that Johnson’s siblings had harassed and physically assaulted her, leaving her with eyes and shoulder injuries that affects her sight. She further claimed that Johnson’s family had been issuing threats to force her to produce her son.

Following the complaint, the police issued a formal warning letter to Johnson’s family, cautioning them to desist from harassing Ogbebor’s relatives while investigations continue.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) assured that Ogbebor would be apprehended and brought to justice, emphasizing that no suspect involved in the matter would go unpunished.

“The Command has declared Godspower Ogbebor wanted for his alleged involvement in homosexuality activities. While his partner is already in detention, we will ensure that the fugitive is tracked down. We also warn against any form of retaliatory attacks or harassment between the families,” the statement read.

The police urged members of the public with information about Ogbebor’s whereabouts to come forward, pledging full confidentiality for informants.
