The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with tribal and cultural organizations to promote peace, unity, and inclusive development across the state.
State Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba stated this on Saturday during the second anniversary celebration of Pastoralists Day (Yanlde Fulbe), held at the UK Bello Arts Theatre in Minna.
The event was organized by the State Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs.
Garba emphasized that peace and unity are the bedrock of progress, pledging continued collaboration with the Fulani community and other ethnic groups to strengthen social harmony and stability.
He expressed admiration for the unity among the Fulani people, stating, “I am impressed with the unity of the Fulani people. Our strength lies in our togetherness. Without peace, there can be no development or progress in any aspect of life.”
He also praised the choice of August 23 to commemorate the founding of the Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, calling it a visionary legacy that future generations will honour.
The Deputy Governor highlighted the Fulani community’s growing engagement with government initiatives, noting their increasing participation in education, employment, and modern agriculture.
This shift, he said, has enhanced peaceful coexistence and boosted productivity in livestock and farming.
He further commended the Fulani community for their support of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago during the 2023 elections and encouraged them to maintain their support in the upcoming 2027 polls.
Also speaking at the event, Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Hon. Umar Sanda Rebe, described the celebration as a milestone in the administration’s efforts to give the Fulani people a stronger sense of belonging. He reiterated the ministry’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bago.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of an award to Mr. Ola Olayede, Executive Director of Niger Foods and Logistics Company, by the Fulani political group Bago Ruga-Ruga.
The award recognized his contributions to empowering pastoralists through mechanized farming.
Represented by Programme Coordinator Engr. Bashiru Tanko, Mr. Olayede pledged the company’s continued commitment to lifting pastoralist communities out of poverty through modern agricultural practices.
Other dignitaries in attendance, including Commissioner for Agriculture Hon. Salihu Bawa Bosso, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Director General of Nomadic Affairs Ardo Abdullahi Babayo, commended Governor Bago’s dedication to equity, inclusion, peace building, and sustainable development.
They described his leadership as a unifying force and a recognition of the vital role nomadic communities play in the state’s progress.
