The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has assured taxpayers of efficient top-quality service, by ensuring that it will guide against incidence of double taxation.
Executive Chairman, OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye stated this, during the second anniversary of the Inspector of Taxes Forum, at the agency’s headquarters in Abeokuta, saying no one would be under rated in the State comes from the ‘Pay As You Earn’ (PAYE) sector, adding that capturing the informal sector into the tax net would boost revenue generation.
“The informal sector of the economy which comprises artisans, market men and women, and other self-employed individuals is an important sector that needs to be totally captured into the State tax net for improved revenue generation”, he said.
The Chairman pointed out that when all taxable adults pay appropriate taxes as and when due, more developmental projects would be embarked upon by the government.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Adeleke Asiwaju described the tax as the economic backbone of the State, considering its contributions to government revenue.
According to Asiwaju, a proposal had been written on modalities to be adopted in increasing the State’s revenue through the Informal sector of the economy, appealing to the government to consider the Inspector of Taxes for higher position in the Civil Service.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding members of the Forum.
