Soldier caught trying to sell stolen vehicle in Abuja

A 33-year-old Nigerian Army soldier has been taken into custody by police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over an attempt to sell a vehicle believed to have been stolen.

According to information obtained by Zagazola Makama, the suspect—Lance Corporal Yusuf Yunnusa—serves with the 82 Battalion based in Rukuba, Plateau State.

He was arrested at approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 19 at Mamu Filling Station, located in the Lambata area of Kwali, after authorities received credible intelligence regarding an individual attempting to sell a Toyota Corolla without proper documentation.

Officers immediately launched a covert operation that led to Yunnusa’s capture. The stolen car, a Toyota Corolla LE with registration number ABC 570 FJ and an ash-colored body, was recovered at the scene.

During questioning, Yunnusa admitted to stealing the vehicle from the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja around noon on April 17, 2025.

He had transported the car to Kwali with plans to sell it, but was intercepted before the deal could go through.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
