Henry Osagie Erhunmwunsee’s Wife Cries Out Over Consistent Life-Threatening Attacks

The wife of Henry Osagie Erhunmwunsee, Mrs. Rachel Osagie, has raised the alarm over repeated life-threatening attacks on her family, alleging that unknown gunmen have continued to hunt them over an age-long communal crisis. The most recent of such attacks, according to her, occurred on February 13, 2025, when armed men stormed their former residence in Oke Oroma Amagba community, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, in search of her husband.

The assailants, reportedly from the neighbouring Obagie N’ Evbousa community, descended on the house, biting and brutalizing every occupant in an attempt to force out information on the whereabouts of Henry Osagie Erhunmwunsee. Rachel said the attackers acted in revenge, believing her husband was responsible for the death of their gang leader during the 2013 communal clash between both communities.

Recounting her ordeal, Rachel said the February attack marked the fourth attempt on Henry’s life. “My husband has escaped several assassination attempts. They already killed his elder brother and seriously injured his younger one. Now they’re after him again, and I fear for my life and that of my children,” she lamented.

The genesis of the crisis, she said, dates back to October 2013 when a deadly clash erupted between Oke Oroma Amagba and Obagie N’ Evbousa communities over land ownership. Rachel alleged that trouble started when Henry reported some encroaching youths to the local leaders, a move that escalated tensions and resulted in a bloody clash. She said the attackers have since held her husband responsible for the death of their leader in that incident.

“After Henry reported them for trying to take over our family land in Oke Oroma, a crisis broke out. He narrowly escaped an attack, but they came back and killed his elder brother when they heard he had returned. That was when Henry fled the town for his safety,” Rachel stated.

Since then, Rachel claims she has had to change her residence multiple times due to the constant harassment and threats from the assailants. She explained that prior to the latest attack, her family lived at No. 16 Eweka Street, off Upper Sakpoba Road in Benin City, before relocating due to growing threats in 2024.

Despite relocating, Rachel says the attackers mistakenly believed she still lived at the former address, where they unleashed terror on the occupants during the February 2025 invasion. “They are asking me to tell my husband to return and settle the damage they claimed he caused. But how do you settle with people who are bent on killing?” she cried.

Rachel is now appealing to the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security agencies to intervene and put a stop to what she described as “organized terror.” According to her, the situation has spiraled beyond the control of local authorities and threatens the peace and safety of innocent residents.
