NDLEA continues drug sensitization in Amassoma Town rally for all stakeholder’s support in fight against drug abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Bayelsa State Command continues its 5- Days sensitization program on drug abuse in the Amassoma community, flagged off by the State Commander, Kanu Sunny Chukwuemeka, CN on 18th February 2025 with the Theme: Safer Communities Without Illicit Drugs
Day 2, 19th February, saw the agency take to the streets of the Amassoma community and motor parks to interact and enlighten motorists and road users about the short-term and long-term implications of substance abuse and its role in crime. Drug abuse sensitization talks were given to members of the team led by a representative of the State Commander DCN Francis Chia, PhD Assistant State Commander Drug Demand Reduction (DDR). Others include ACN Erepa Godwin, SN Obebhatein Okporubia, and ASN Tarela Rose Alatari.
Day 3, 20th February began with an advocacy visit to the palace of the Ag. Amanaowei of Amassoma Kingdom, HRH Goodwill Akedesuo, and Chiefs of the community.
From the palace, the NDLEA team led by the representative of the State Commander DCN Francis Chia, PhD, proceeded to the Amassoma Town Hall for a Stakeholder Engagement. The session, anchored by SN Daniel Howells Obah, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, lasted for about 2 hours.
Stakeholders were drawn from the Niger Delta University community, Student Union Government Excos, Women Group, NAPPMED, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Business and Political class of Amassoma.
This session also probed extensively on why drug abuse and trafficking are inimical to our individual and corporate existence and also suggested measures to adopt on the part of individuals, Communities, and government in curbing the menace. High point of the stakeholder engagement was to establish the Amassoma Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse (ACCASA) with scope and terms of assignment to be worked out between the agency and the community leadership.
The event, supported by Engineer Godknows Alamieyeseigha, State Director, NDDC Bayelsa State, received the praises of both old and young, with many calling on other leaders in Bayelsa to emulate and support NDLEA in the fight against drug abuse and criminality.
