Lauretta Fagbohun, Abeokuta.
To enhance food sufficiency and make farm produce more affordable, the Ogun State Government is constructing 40 lock-up shops and 200 open stalls equipped with modern amenities at Asero Farmers Market in Abeokuta.
Hon. Bolu Owotomo, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed this during an inspection of the project, revealing that construction is 85% complete.
He emphasized that the market aims to provide a dedicated space for farmers to sell their produce, aligning with the government’s agenda to lower food prices and boost food availability.
According to Owotomo, the farmers’ market will offer fresh farm produce daily at reduced prices, benefiting both consumers and local farmers by increasing sales.
He also highlighted that beyond just physical infrastructure, the project includes essential amenities such as access to clean water and toilet facilities to support farmers and improve market conditions.
