Ogun Police warn against use of unregistered vehicles

Lauretta Fagbohun, Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Police Command has issued a warning to vehicle owners operating without proper registration or documentation, stating that such vehicles will be impounded and offenders prosecuted.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s Spokesperson, announced this in Abeokuta on Monday, emphasizing the ongoing campaign against the use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and dealership plate numbers in the state.

Odutola highlighted that these practices violate traffic and vehicle registration laws and pose significant security risks. A 2024 crime analysis revealed that many criminal activities in the state, such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related killings, were carried out using vehicles that flouted traffic regulations.

“Offenses like operating vehicles without valid papers, driving unregistered vehicles, using expired dealership licenses, and applying artificial tint to cars have become widespread,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has mandated all drivers in Ogun State to update their vehicle documents during a grace period allotted for compliance. After this sensitization period, a strict zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against violators.

“This crackdown is part of a broader strategy to enhance safety and curb criminal activities in the state,” Odutola added, urging residents to adhere to traffic laws and support the authorities’ efforts.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that non-compliance would result in severe consequences.
