Hard Work pays, there’s no shortcut to success, NAUTH CMD advises SHIM matriculants

Professor Joseph Ugboaja, the Chief Medical Director of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State, has admonished matriculating students of the School of Health Information Management (SHIM) of the NAUTH that success comes through hard work.
Prof Ugboaja advised the new students during the institution’s 21st matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 students held at NAUTH premises.
The theme of this year’s event is Electronic Health Records System: A driving force to 21st century health care services.
Prof Ugboaja, represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Prof Ogochukwu Ezejiofor, advised the matriculants to burn midnight candles, study widely, and be academically equipped to face their future academic engagements.
“The world is now very competitive and you can only make it if you work hard.
“You must be computer literate and also acquire moral excellence while in school. Emotional, social, and moral content are the things you must not fail to learn in school.
“Define a target for yourself and make sure you don’t waste your time. This is no longer the era students say ‘Ogbu oge nwere plan’ (someone who whiles away time has a purpose or is sure to make it). There’s no justification to be a lazy student and you still hope to make it.
“You must start early to plan your life. Study until you get to the threshold, it’s not easy but there’s no gain without pain.
“Take your business here seriously, and it would be bad that after spending five years here, you will not achieve your aim for being here.
“I congratulate you and you should count yourselves lucky because there are ones out there that are not that lucky to be here. You should justify the efforts of your parents who have tasked themselves for you to be here, “he added.
In his address, the Head of the school, Mrs. Uche Nwajagu, told the matriculants that as managers of patients’ health information and hospital-held information in Nigeria, they should exhibit moral and professional responsibilities to acquire the right training and education.
She said she believed that the school has qualified, seasoned, and tireless lecturers to enrich the students.
“I want to use this medium to encourage you to decline the decay in the social life of the period and face what you are here for. I encourage you, therefore, to avail yourselves of opportunities for continuous professional education and development, which the association, in collaboration with the HRORBN, has rolled out for your benefit.
“At the end of your studies, you will be inducted into the profession and issued a license to practice after the NYSC program.
“As the cloud of glory moves, do not sit on the fence to watch others move. Let the zeal to acquire more education burn in you so that you get a better place and position at the end, “she said.
She advised the students to give themselves fully to study and graduate with good results. She noted that the vision of the institution was to produce professionals who could match up with the trend in ICT.
Some NAUTH senior management staff, including the Head of Corporate Affairs Department, Mrs Chinyere Onwuka, were at the event.
