Troops of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed for ‘Operation Fasan Gamma’ have destroyed 22 camps of the Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The troops also neutralized several terrorists, recovering four rifles, as well as 409 PKT, 7.62mm, NATO and 7.62mm special rounds ammunition.

Prior to the development, troops had undertaken precursor and shaping operations into the forests and enclaves of the bandits.

The forests where the troops engaged the terrorists are in Rumji Dutse, east of Sarma, Tusauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna, Mafara, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kaididda, Kolo and Dancha villages in Illela, Tangaza and Bingo local government areas of Sokoto State.

Recall that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The deployment is to consolidate successes achieved in the ongoing precursor operation under Operation Forest Sanity III to destroy the Lakurawa terrorists.

Addressing the troops, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Operation Fasan Yamma, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Operation Fasan Gamma, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, ordered total destruction of the Lakurawa sect.

He enjoined the troops to abide by the rules of engagement and ensure the protection of lives and properties of law abiding citizens.

According to him, the troops have been selected and trained for the mission, hence Nigerians are counting on their ability and professionalism to flush out the Lakurawa.

“The deployment of the Brigade will be an added impetus in frustrating the activities of the bandits and restoring normalcy to the affected communities and North-West in general,” he added.
