2027 Elections: ADC suffers major setback as court invalidates national leadership, candidates

By: Ekunkonye Junior, Abuja.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suffered a major legal setback following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja nullifying the processes that produced its national leadership and candidates for the 2027 general elections.

In its judgment on Thursday, the court set aside the emergence of former Senate President David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola and others as national officers of the party, thereby invalidating the leadership structure under which the party had operated.

The decision also affected former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whose emergence as the ADC presidential candidate for the 2027 election was nullified following the court’s rejection of the processes leading to his nomination.

Beyond the leadership and presidential candidacy, the court further cancelled the nominations of all candidates presented by the party for the 2027 general elections on the grounds that they emerged through an unlawful and illegal leadership structure.

The ruling places the ADC’s political preparations for the 2027 elections under serious uncertainty, as the party faces the consequences of the court’s decision on its leadership, presidential ticket and other electoral nominations.
