Stakeholders meet as CONYSSA urges company to honour commitments and prioritise workers’ safety
The management of KAMSTEEL Integrated Company Ltd., Sagamu, has pledged compensation for the family of a young man who died following an incident at its facility, alongside a promise of employment for his wife, if he was married.
The commitment was made during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to discuss the incident and the welfare of the deceased’s family, according to a public statement issued by the Coalition of Nigeria Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA).
The meeting brought together representatives of the Sagamu Youth Executive, Remo Youth Executive, National Youth Executive, the Association of Sabo Youth Leaders (ASSYL), security personnel, royal fathers and other youth representatives.
In the statement signed by Comr. Ọ̀gbẹ́ni Saka Olamilekan Ayobami (Lakeside), Ogun State Chapter Public Relations Officer of CONYSSA and Sagamu Coordinator, the coalition acknowledged the commitments made by the company and expressed appreciation to the stakeholders who participated in the discussions.
CONYSSA, however, stressed that KAMSTEEL must fulfil all the promises made to ensure that the bereaved family receives the compensation and support pledged.
The coalition emphasised that the dignity of the deceased, the welfare of his family and the safety of workers must remain priorities in addressing the incident.
It also called for sustained cooperation among the company, relevant authorities, community leaders and youth representatives to strengthen workplace safety and ensure proper communication with the families of workers affected by similar incidents.
Extending its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire Sabo Youth community, CONYSSA prayed for strength for those mourning the loss.
“Every life matters. Every worker deserves protection, and every commitment made to a bereaved family must be honoured,” the coalition stated.
CONYSSA, which describes its mission as “Complementing National Security,” reiterated the importance of accountability, worker protection and the fulfilment of commitments made to families affected by workplace tragedies.
