The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has condemned an attack on two of its personnel in Niger State that claimed the life of one officer and left another seriously injured, vowing to work with security agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, when armed men attacked two officers on routine surveillance patrol along the Tunga Taya–Woro axis in Niger State.
The deceased, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I.U. Babangida, was buried in accordance with Islamic rites, while the injured officer, Inspector A.K. Musa, escaped the attack and is receiving medical attention.
The Service expressed condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased, while wishing the injured officer a speedy recovery and assuring both families of its continued support.
According to the NIS, it is collaborating with the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend the attackers.
Despite the incident, the Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders, insisting that the attack would not deter its personnel from carrying out their duties.
