The Executive Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council, Hon. Aikpokpo Enahoro, has officially flagged off the Back to School programme in the locality ,while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting teaching, learning and encouraging every child to return to the classroom.
As part of the initiative, educational materials were distributed to students in secondary schools and pupils in primary schools across the local government area. The programme is designed to ease the burden on parents and guardians while equipping learners with the basic tools they need to succeed academically.
Acccording to a press statement signed by the chief Press Secretary ,Comrade Ilevbare Duro Sylvester, the Chairman was accompanied during the visits by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Thomas Ale, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon Angelina Aigbokhai, the APC LGA Chairman, Hon. Frank David,and other relevant officials and stakeholders.
The atmosphere at the schools was one of excitement and celebration, as students and pupils warmly received the Chairman. Hon. Enahoro interacted freely with the children, singing, dancing and sharing joyful moments with them a display of his genuine passion for the welfare of young learners.
School communities expressed their appreciation for his continued support and commitment to quality education across the Local Government Area.
Among the schools visited were Holy Trinity Grammar School, Obe Primary School, Evbiobe Central School and other schools within Owan West.
Speaking during the exercise, the Acting Education Secretary, Latifu Omon Blessing, commended the Executive Chairman for his unwavering support for education and his dedication to ensuring that pupils and students in Owan West benefit from educational interventions.
The Back to School programme is being implemented under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) framework, through collaboration between the Federal Government and the Edo State Government, with the Local Government participating and supporting implementation within the locality.
According to the Council’s Chief Press Secretary, “Enahoro-led administration remains committed to human capital development and to creating a conducive environment for learning, ensuring that no child in Owan West is left behind.
“Investing in the education of our children is an investment in the future of Owan West. Through initiatives like the Back to School programme, the local government is laying a solid foundation for a generation of informed, skilled and productive citizens who will drive the continued growth and development of the area”,Ilevbare posited.
