The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Comr. Olabode Faruq, popularly known as SUCCESS, has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, known as HACCO, to explore areas of collaboration aimed at advancing student welfare and youth development.
During the meeting, Faruq commended the council chairman for his developmental efforts across Ijebu East, particularly interventions in the healthcare sector, which he said could positively benefit students and young people in the local government.
The NANS leader also acknowledged Kehinde’s longstanding commitment to youth development and leadership, recalling his tenure as Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and his continued involvement in initiatives focused on empowering young people.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss possible areas of partnership, including student welfare, education, youth empowerment, vocational and skills development, healthcare and other programmes capable of improving the wellbeing and future prospects of students across Ijebu East.
Responding, Kehinde reaffirmed his willingness to support the students’ constituency and shared insights from his own experience in student and youth leadership.
He noted that he had previously served as Vice President of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and Secretary-General of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS). He also referenced his participation in youth development platforms, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and youth parliament initiatives in Ogun State.
The council chairman urged NANS leaders to remain focused on serving students and to place the interests of the students’ community above personal gains.
He advised the association to cultivate productive and lasting relationships with government officials, institutions and other stakeholders, rather than focusing solely on immediate benefits.
Kehinde also encouraged NANS leadership to remain actively engaged in the democratic process and participate responsibly in forthcoming elections, stressing that young people and students have an important role to play in determining the direction of society.
Faruq thanked the council chairman for the warm reception, valuable counsel and willingness to work with NANS Ogun JCC in advancing initiatives that benefit students.
He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to constructive engagement with government at all levels and partnerships that prioritise student welfare, development and future opportunities.
