The lawyer representing Abdulazeez, popularly known as Tani Olorun, on Tuesday appeared before the Upper Area Court II, Ilorin Judicial Division, as proceedings continued in the case filed against his client by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation.

Tani Olorun is facing allegations arising from a social media video which the complainant claims depicted a mockery of Islamic sacred prayer. The complaint alleges that the video contained elements capable of inciting religious disturbance, insulting or inciting contempt of religious creed, and injurious falsehood under Sections 114, 210 and 393(1) of the Penal Code Law, Cap P4, Laws of Kwara State.

At Tuesday’s sitting, Tani Olorun’s counsel, M.A. Olobi, told the court that he had earlier filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the Ilorin court to hear the case.

The objection came as counsel to the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, Barrister Ademola Ajasa, informed the court that a warrant of arrest had earlier been issued against Tani Olorun. Ajasa said four Kwara State police officers travelled to Ibadan on August 25 to execute the warrant but were allegedly prevented from carrying out the arrest and assaulted.

Ajasa further informed the court that an application had been filed in connection with the alleged incident, which was opposed by Olobi on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 15, 2026, for further proceedings. The allegations against Tani Olorun remain unproven, as the case is still pending before the court.
