The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 general elections, with the party flagging off its presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives campaigns in the state.
The campaign launch, held on Wednesday at the Ake Palace Arcade in Abeokuta, attracted a large gathering of party leaders, candidates, supporters and members from across the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the campaign committee and PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, expressed confidence that the party would restore better days to the country if elected in 2027.
Adebutu recalled the achievements of previous PDP administrations, particularly the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing the period as a reference point for the party’s contributions to Nigeria’s development.
He said, “I want to remind you that the best times of Nigeria have largely emerged under the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), exemplified by what Baba Obasanjo did as a cornerstone for his successors.”
The PDP governorship candidate assured party supporters that a new era of prosperity was possible, declaring, “Happy days are coming again, very, very soon. In January, a new dawn will break for the betterment of our people.”
Also speaking, the party’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, said her decision to return to the PDP after a brief stint in the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by her determination to restore the district’s development and political standing.
Obasanjo, who previously represented the senatorial district between 2007 and 2011, said she was concerned that the achievements recorded during her tenure had been eroded by successive representatives.
“My desire to take back our senatorial district to where it was when I represented it is the reason why I came back to the PDP and took up the challenge of restoring our lost glories,” she said.
