Arsenal have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign England defender Ezri Konsa in a deal worth more than £50 million.
The 28-year-old is expected to undergo a medical before completing his transfer to the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta continues to strengthen his squad ahead of another demanding campaign.
Arsenal had initially opened negotiations with Villa but failed to reach an agreement. The Gunners subsequently explored a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah before returning to their pursuit of Konsa.
Konsa has been a key figure at Villa since joining the club in July 2019. He has made 286 appearances for the Midlands side, including 48 outings across all competitions last season.
During the campaign, he scored twice and provided one assist as Villa enjoyed a strong season, winning the Europa League and securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
The defender’s recent international commitments meant he was given an extended break by Villa manager Unai Emery. Konsa featured in every match for England as the Three Lions finished third at the World Cup.
Emery had earlier confirmed that Konsa, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and striker Ollie Watkins would return to the Villa squad after the club’s final pre-season fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Konsa’s arrival would provide Arsenal with another experienced defensive option as the North London club prepares for a fresh Premier League title challenge alongside their return to Champions League football.
