The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) has strengthened its grassroots mobilisation in Ogun State with the inauguration of its students’ wing and the formal integration of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum into the movement.
The twin developments took place at a gathering in Abeokuta on Saturday, as the group intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event, YPM Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the movement’s membership had risen to 55,000 across the state, attributing the growth to sustained grassroots engagement by its leaders and coordinators.
“This is another testament to our mobilisation efforts in the Yayi Progressives Movement. I can confidently declare that the movement can now boast of 55,000 members across the state,” Akintunde said.
He commended the movement’s apex leaders, state executive committee, as well as local government and ward coordinators for their contributions to the expansion of YPM.
Akintunde described the inclusion of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum, which claims a membership of about 4,000, as another indication of the movement’s growing grassroots influence.
He urged members of the newly inaugurated students’ wing and the women’s forum to strengthen their mobilisation efforts in support of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 elections.
Representing the apex leadership, the Co-Convener, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, commended the students and women for identifying with YPM, saying their participation demonstrated the growing impact of the movement’s community engagement.
The newly inaugurated students’ wing is headed by Comrade Dotun Opaleye, who disclosed that the group was already mobilising students across tertiary institutions in Ogun State, with a target of enrolling 5,000 members.
Opaleye described his appointment as an opportunity to contribute to the movement’s activities, particularly among young people and students interested in APC affairs.
He also appreciated the YPM leadership for supporting the recent campus voter registration exercise, describing the gesture as evidence of the movement’s commitment to youth participation.
On her part, a leader of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum, Mrs Ogunsanya Olusola, decorated Akintunde as the group’s patron and expressed confidence in his leadership.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the YPM Board of Leaders, Chief Fajimi, appreciated members and supporters of the movement, highlighting the recent solidarity trek organised by its students’ and youth forums as a remarkable demonstration of its growing strength.
With the formal launch of its students’ wing and the integration of the women’s forum, YPM is seeking to further expand its grassroots network and consolidate its political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
