The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC), has commended the Ogun State Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of the five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted last week.
In a statement issued by the NANS Ogun JCC Chairman, Comrade Olabode Faruq, popularly known as Success, the students’ body praised Governor Dapo Abiodun, the state government and security operatives for what it described as a swift and coordinated rescue operation.
According to the statement, the successful operation demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of students across tertiary institutions in the state.
NANS also applauded the professionalism, resilience and dedication of the security agencies throughout the rescue mission, noting that the development had restored confidence among students and their parents.
The association said the outcome further justified its recent campaign for improved security across campuses in Ogun State.
It recalled that following the killing of a student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, the council organised a peaceful protest to draw attention to the growing insecurity affecting tertiary institutions and to demand stronger government intervention.
According to NANS, the protest was aimed at advocating a more effective security framework to safeguard students rather than expressing anger over the incident.
The association added that the rescue of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic students underscored the importance of collaboration among the government, security agencies and student leaders in addressing security challenges.
While celebrating the successful rescue, NANS urged the Ogun State Government to sustain and strengthen security measures in and around tertiary institutions and adjoining communities to prevent similar incidents.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests, safety and welfare of students in Ogun State and pledged to continue working with relevant stakeholders to ensure a safer learning environment.
