Kano Assembly commences 4-day retreat ‘2026’ for Honourable Members, Management Staff

The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced a strategic 4-day retreat for Distinguished Honourable members and management staff in Kaduna, focusing on promoting legislative Inclusiveness for good Governance. 

The retreat, which began on Thursday, 30th July, 2026, includes the significance of research and effective management of legislative documents in a legislature, understanding the code for public officers, challenges of developing legacy reports, maximizing democratic dividends through executive-legislative relations, among others. 

In a statement released by the Speaker’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, on Thursday, in his opening remarks, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, expressed warm felicitations to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his unwavering commitment and support to strengthening democratic institutions in Kano State.

His administration continues to support legislative capacity-building programs. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s program demonstrates a clear understanding that a strong legislature is indispensable to good governance, accountability, and sustainable development. 

The Speaker also reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and diligent enactment of people-oriented legislation that advances the progress and prosperity of Kano State.

In the same vein, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, on the other hand, commended Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf for consistent support and commitment to legislative sustainable capacity building and sustaining the cordial working relationships between the executive and legislature in the overall interest of the people of Kano State. 

He assured the Kano State of more consistent quality legislation and oversight functions as prescribed in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. 

Professor Aminu Umar from the Department of Political Science, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dahiru Idris from Bayero University, Kano, and SAHL Human Resource presented papers in relation to promoting legislative Inclusiveness for good Governance. 

The 2026 retreat is to equip members of the Kano State House of Assembly and management staff with the tools and necessary knowledge needed to strengthen instructional memory, improve accountability, facilitate leadership transition, and provide an enduring reference for future Assemblies. 

Kano State House of Assembly, in collaboration with SAHL Human Resource, organized the retreat aimed at deepening the capacity of lawmakers and Assembly staff on good Governance and the effectiveness of legislative services.
