The hammer of disciplinary action against any Staff or Students who promote any form of examination malpractices under the Banner of the prestigious second-generation University of Calabar has hit on Nine Management Staff of the institution last weekend.
This information was contained in a memo signed by the University of Calabar Registrar, Dr. MRS. Icha Chukwuka, as a result of the decision taken at the 174th Meeting of the University Governing Council after an extensive deliberation on the report of the disciplinary cases committed by both the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.
According to the registrar’s list, the name of the staff involve Professor Emilia Oyira of the Department of Nursing Sciences, was considered for outright dismissal because of cases of examination misconduct.
Others include Mr. Ukachukwu Echezunachi Darlington in the Department of Chemical Pathology, MRS. Akinrinade Opayemi Ogunluyi – the Department of Microbiology, Dr. Arum Priscilla Nchekwube – Department of Internal Medicine and Mrs. Okoi Nyesam Eni – of the Clinical Medical Hostel are dismissed for absent and abandonment of duty post.
This list also includes Mr. Joseph Edet Okon, – the Works Department dismissed for alleged vandalization and act of carting away armoured Cables; Mr. Eworo Valentine Ibor of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry is dismissed on allegations of falsification and alteration of examination results for students.
In the case of Mr. Emmanuel Adariku of the University of Calabar Alumni Relations Office, is dismissed on a case of making an unauthorized withdrawal of funds from ‘The Friends of Malabar/Alumni Trust Funds Account, while lastly, Dr. Mathias Agba of the Department of Nursing Science is to suffer for delayed promotion for two promotional years including forfeiture of 50 percent of his withheld salary for the culpability in the case of negligence of duty in respect of alleged examination misconduct.
However, the University of Calabar Management have reiterate its continuous zero tolerance stance to all forms of unethical practices throughout the duration of Professor OFFIONG EFFANGA OFFIONG’s tenure of administration who is working to rebrand the institution on a foundation of ‘integrity and excellence in service delivery’.
