The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued eleven (11) kidnapped victims following a bandit attack along the Gummi–Sokoto Highway.
This was disclosed in a statement by DSP Yazid Abubakar, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer for Zamfara State Command, made available to Journalists in Gusau.
According to the statement, on 21st July 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., a large number of armed bandits ambushed a trailer transporting vegetables and other passengers along the Gummi–Sokoto Road. During the attack, the assailants opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.
Tragically, one passenger, identified as Dan Fati Umar, male, of Gidan Ganja via Bukuyum, lost his life during the incident, while another victim sustained serious injuries and is receiving medical attention.
The bandits abducted an unspecified number of passengers. However, following a swift response by police operatives and other security personnel, eleven (11) kidnapped victims were successfully rescued. The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families.
The trailer involved in the attack remains under police protection, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, PSC+, mnips, extends his condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured victim a speedy recovery. He reassures members of the public that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
