Reality TV personality and former Big Brother Naija winner Mercy Eke has sparked debate after revealing that she would not marry a man who expects her to prepare meals every day.
Speaking during a recent episode of Toke Moments, hosted by Toke Makinwa, the entrepreneur said regular cooking is not something she is willing to commit to in a relationship.
According to Mercy, she only enjoys cooking occasionally and believes couples should embrace shared responsibilities rather than traditional expectations.
“I can’t date or marry a man who expects me to cook for him every day. I cook only once in a while when I’m in the mood. If you want fresh meals daily, then employ a chef,” she said.
She stressed that love alone would never convince her to become responsible for preparing meals every day.
“I’m not the kind of woman for that. Some women genuinely enjoy doing it, and that’s perfectly okay. That’s why people should choose partners whose values and expectations match theirs,” she explained.
Mercy added that anyone who dislikes eating leftovers or expects freshly prepared meals daily would likely find them incompatible.
Her remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, with social media users divided over her views on gender roles, marriage, and domestic responsibilities.
