Spain beat France 2-0 to reach 2026 World Cup final

Spain have secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating France 2-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final played in Arlington, Texas.

Mikel Oyarzabal put La Roja ahead in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot after Lucas Digne brought down Lamine Yamal inside the box, with referee Ivan Barton pointing to the spot.

The goal was Oyarzabal’s fifth of the tournament and marked the first occasion either Spain or France had fallen behind in the competition.

Spain extended their lead in the 58th minute when Pedro Porro finished off a well-worked team move initiated by Dani Olmo, putting Luis de la Fuente’s men firmly in control.

France, aiming to reach a third straight World Cup final, found it difficult to penetrate Spain’s organised defence and were unable to mount a comeback.

The victory sends Spain into Sunday’s final, where they will meet either England or Argentina, who face off in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
