The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a resounding victory in the Ovia South West Local Government chairmanship election, with its candidate, Anthony Osarobo, emerging Chairman-elect after polling 98,994 votes across the council’s 10 wards.
The Returning Officer for the election, Dr. Arodoye Nosakhare, announced the results on Saturday at the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) Local Government Collation Centre, declaring Osarobo duly elected after defeating candidates of 11 other political parties.
According to the Returning Officer, the APC candidate scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the election and was therefore returned elected in line with the provisions of the electoral guidelines.
“After the collation of results across different party lines, the APC chairmanship candidate, having scored the majority of valid votes, is hereby returned elected,” Dr. Nosakhare declared.
The final results showed the APC recording a dominant 98,994 votes, while other parties trailed far behind. Party “A” polled 28 votes, AA secured 42 votes, AAC had 32 votes, ADP scored 26 votes, APGA garnered 25 votes, APM received five votes, APP recorded 12 votes, NNPP and PRP got one vote each, YPP also polled one vote, while ZLP secured 15 votes.
An elated Osarobo, who at 30 years becomes one of the youngest politicians to be elected chairman of Ovia South West Local Government, expressed gratitude to the electorate for the overwhelming mandate.
“I am happy to have emerged as the Chairman-elect of Ovia South West. I do not take this victory for granted because it was made possible by the support and confidence reposed in me by the people. I will use this mandate to work tirelessly for the development and progress of Ovia South West,” he said.
Also reacting to the outcome, the Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, described the exercise as transparent and commended the people for their peaceful participation.
He congratulated Osarobo on his victory and expressed optimism that the Chairman-elect would fulfil his campaign promises and deliver meaningful development to the people of Ovia South West.
