The Ondo State Police Command has announced restrictions on vehicular and waterway movements across the Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s by-election.
The Command disclosed that the restriction would be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day as part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, individuals engaged in essential services will be exempted from the movement restriction.
The Command warned that unauthorised movement and any activity capable of disrupting the conduct of the election would not be tolerated, adding that security personnel have been deployed to ensure strict compliance.
The Commissioner of Police also cautioned politicians, their supporters and members of the public against acts capable of undermining the credibility of the poll, including violence, voter intimidation, vote-buying and thuggery.
He stressed that anyone found violating electoral regulations or engaging in actions that could threaten public peace would be arrested and prosecuted.
The police chief further assured residents that security measures had been strengthened through intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated operations with other security agencies to guarantee safety before, during and after the election.
