The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may begin an investigation into human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju and social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following allegations relating to terrorism financing and other financial concerns.
The planned probe stems from a petition submitted by legal practitioner Blessing Agbomhere, who urged the anti-graft agency to scrutinise the financial activities of the two public figures.
According to reports, the petitioner requested an examination of the funding behind their advocacy campaigns, legal interventions, media engagements and protest activities to determine whether the resources were obtained through lawful means.
In the petition dated June 17, 2026, Agbomhere also called for a review of their compliance with tax obligations, financial disclosure requirements and other regulatory standards.
He argued that given the scale of their public engagements, it was necessary for authorities to verify the legitimacy of the funds supporting their activities and ensure there were no violations of financial regulations.
The lawyer further expressed concerns about possible security implications, noting that funding structures could sometimes be exploited to influence public perception or undermine confidence in state institutions.
He therefore urged investigators to determine whether any local or foreign entities were financing their operations.
Agbomhere also requested a detailed audit of their bank accounts, assets, business interests and affiliated organisations to identify any potential cases of money laundering, unlawful fundraising or tax-related offences.
He, however, stressed that the petition should not be interpreted as a declaration of guilt but rather as a request for a transparent investigation that could either confirm compliance or clear any doubts surrounding their activities.
According to him, a thorough probe would help strengthen public confidence if the funds are found to have been legitimately sourced and properly utilised.
